Hush Now, Little One

A Bedtime Lullaby

Since I was a young girl, I have loved writing music. I was the kid who was always singing around the house…who then grew up into the woman who was always singing around work. Self taught on the piano and guitar, I would sit and play music for hours, most of which were original compositions.

Writing has always been my outlet for expressing myself. However, inspiration can come from all areas of life, not necessarily just from personal experiences. I wrote Hush Now, Little One over 10 years ago after a close friend of mine had a baby. Originally composed on my acoustic guitar, I had an idea for a soft lullaby — a song that would be soothing, but also express how no matter where life leads, a parent’s love will always follow.

After writing Mr. Moose is Doing the Most!, I wanted to continue to make content for children. I remembered my lullaby and thought it would make a perfect little baby board book. I really wanted a water color element for the book, so I reached out to a different illustrator - Enna Tales via Fiverr. I didn’t give her much guidance with the design, just that I wanted a watercolor design with dreamy elements (moon, stars, etc).

I’m really happy with how the illustrations turned out — I even got a little emotional seeing them for the first time. As someone who struggles with infertility, seeing the illustrations gave me a glimpse into what motherhood could look like for me one day. I hope one day, I’ll have a child of my own that I can sing my lullaby too. But for now, I am happy to share this song with the rest of the world.

Since writing music is not something I do professionally (yet!), I use this program called Suno to help bring my music to life. I upload my own raw recordings, and with Suno I can produce my music into a fully formed song. While not my voice, the lyrics and melody are my original composition.
